A preparation of mixed raw fruit, macedonia di frutta is an Italian version of what we might call fruit salad.
Using fresh, seasonal fruit makes for the best macedonia.
Here we’ve used strawberries, peaches and grapes, but you can use any combination of fruit you like in your Italian fruit salad.
Other popular choices include bananas, nectarines, cherries, pears, blueberries, honeydew, cantaloupe or apples.
Although the recipe calls for liqueur, it can be substituted with fresh squeezed lemon juice instead.
- 3 cups strawberries
- 3 peaches
- 2 cups red seedless grapes
- 1/2 cup liqueur (cognac, grand marnier, marsala, limoncello, or grappa)
- sugar to taste
Wash and prepare the fruit by cutting it into small pieces and placing it in a medium bowl.
Add the liqueur and sugar and place it in the refrigerator for several hours, this allows the juices of the fruit to be extracted and mix with the liqueur.
Serve the fruit and juices in small individual bowls.
